Did you know, on average us women add over 200 chemicals to our skin daily. More than 60% of these are absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream. The majority of our products that we purchase for our hair care, body care, dental and much more contain the chemicals Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Parabens & MIT (Methylisothiazolinone), along with using animals as research.
My aim is to create soaps and skincare that are SLS Free, Paraben Free & Cruelty Free, along with being MIT Free.
So let me explain why?
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a widely used inexpensive chemical found in many mainstream personal hygiene products such as shampoos, toothpastes, mouthwashes, bodywash, soaps and detergents. It strips the hair and skin of moisture because of strong detergent properties. There is a high demand today for products containing more foam. These foaming agents a chemically known as surfactants. They are exactly the same as you would find in a car wash or a garage to degrease engines, do you really want that on your skin?. The oils dissolve leaving a drying effect. You can actually get your skin, mouth and hair just as cleaner using a gentler, more skin friendly way that will naturally care for skin.
I always get asked “do my soaps foam?”….If I was to use all the above in my soaps, then yes they would foam greatly. Yes my Soaps and Shower Gels do foam not to the extent of soaps that have SLS in them.
Another question is – “My skin dries out when I use Soap, that´s why I don´t use it? – If you use a product that contains the above, then yes your skin will dry out, using ingredients that are kinder and gentle to the skin leaves your skin feeling softer and cleansed, along with oils that will nourish your skin and not dry it out. What are Parabens & MIT?
They are chemical based preservatives which are frequently used in cosmetics and beauty care today.
Why are they used?
Parabens are added to skincare and haircare products to help them last longer. Their chemical properties help preserve the ingredients to keep them fresher, they kill moulds and funguses before they have a chance to spread and damage the product. There are few positives to Parabens apart from helping to extend the shelf life of products so they do not go off. Without them products may spoil (or lose some of their effectiveness) before they are all used up. We all know natural preservatives have a lesser shelf life, personally I would prefer offering a product that is FREE from Parabens and kinder to the skin.
Over the past few years, I have noticed a difference in my skin texture and tone, along with my families. I have been complimented by many and this is the reason I love doing what I do and sharing my love and my passion with you. YES I have done a lot of research, YES I make my products and YES I am self-taught.
